Grand Hearing Center donates to local first responders

Recently, lifelong Portland resident, small business owner and Portland Fire Department member, Doug Logel Jr, donated valuable tools to local emergency first responders.

After reading a recent fire service publication, Logel decided he needed to do something for his community. Logel’s business, Grand Hearing Center, donated seven Sensory Bags to the Portland Police, EMS and Fire Departments. This is enough to equip each ambulance, police cruiser and one in the Fire Chief’s vehicle. Each bag contains various sensory toys, ear muffs, sunglasses and a weighted blanket. Plans are already underway to add more items to the bags.

These tools can be used with children with autism, adults with dementia or any individuals that struggle with sensory challenges. Sometimes responders find themselves at an incident where one of the above-mentioned individuals may be present and it is important to properly address their needs to obtain a positive outcome.

Grand Hearing Center has two locations: Portland and Perry. Portland Fire Department covers the City and two townships: Portland and Danby. Portland EMS covers the City of Portland, as well as the townships of Portland, Danby, Lyons, Westphalia, and parts of Eagle, Sebewa and Orange townships. Service is also provided to the Village of Westphalia and the Village of Pewamo.
