Local Family Hosting Golf Outing to Support The Susan Mast ALS Foundation

The 1st Annual LeDu Family Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, May 9th, at Portland Country Club with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. The outing will benefit the Susan Mast ALS Respite Fund.

Joe LeDu was diagnosed with PLS in July 2018. The symptoms of his disease began in January of 2017, starting with limited use of his left hand. The disease progressed to the entire left arm, moved to the right arm, and is also impacting his ability to walk and speak.

Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) are both progressive neurological diseases that affect nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This limits the body’s communication causing muscle weakness, difficulty speaking and swallowing, and usually results in total paralysis. At this time, there is no known cure. Most patients with ALS live 2-5 years. Typically, PLS has a slower progression. No two cases of PLS or ALS are alike. The progression and symptoms of the diseases vary.

The Susan Mast ALS Foundation, friends and family have helped tremendously as the LeDu family navigates through an uncertain path forward. Funds raised through this golf outing will directly benefit the Susan Mast ALS Respite Fund, which provides funds to assist caregivers.

The cost is $75 for an individual or $275 for a foursome, and includes 18 holes with a cart, lunch at the turn, dinner and awards. All players will receive a commerative T-shirt.

Individual golfers and teams interested in participating can register at https://leduoutingals.eventbrite.com

The deadline to Register is April 10, 2020.
