Shamrock boys fall to Fulton

On Wednesday, January 22nd, the St. Patrick Shamrocks traveled to Fulton for a showdown with the Pirates. The Shamrocks played good defense, but were unable to keep up with the Pirates and lost 51-34.

In the first quarter, the Shamrocks struggled to score, and ended up losing the quarter 11-5. Connor Cross had 3 points, and Sam Mauren put in the other two.

The second quarter looked similar, but the Shamrocks kept it a little closer, losing the quarter 10-7 and leaving the score 21-12 at halftime.

After halftime, the Shamrocks came out and played well, tying the quarter at 11-11, which still left the Pirates winning 32-23 after three quarters. Chase Fitzsimmons led St. Patrick with 4 points.

The Pirates played smart basketball, and made their free throws down the stretch, winning the quarter 19-11. Ryan Lay had 5 points, and Connor Cross had 4 points.

Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Sam Mauren who had 9 points 3 rebounds 3 steal and 1 block, Connor Cross had 8 points 5 rebounds 1 assist and 2 steals, and Ryan Lay had 7 points 10 rebounds and 2 steals.

Coach Pettit had this to say. "Again, the kids play hard and with lots of effort, but also with way too many turnovers and missed free throws. We need to execute offensively in order to score and we aren't doing that right now. I give credit to Fulton, they jumped out in the 1-3-1 zone and really limited the amount of good looks that we got. I have to do a better job of getting the boys prepared, and we have to execute better.

St. Patrick plays next Wednesday, January 29th at P-W.
