Obituary for George Joseph Vroman

George Joseph Vroman, passed away at the age of 87 on May 17, 2019 surrounded by his family. George was born on April 16, 1932 in Lansing, Michigan to Maurice and Zelma (Verlinde) Vroman. As a young man, George boxed in the Golden Gloves and worked as a pin setter at the local bowling alley. George served his country in the Army National Guard. He owned and operated Vroman Cement & Gravel, worked as an electrician for many years, owned and operated George’s Panel Shop, and also owned and operated George’s Carwash for 46 years.
George enjoyed 26 years at his winter home in Rincon, Puerto Rico. He loved sports, enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, boxing, and golf. His favorite past time was playing golf with his family and friends. George also enjoyed daily happy hour with buddies watching sports and solving the world’s problems. He will be greatly missed by many.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy (Edgar) Vroman in 2011; son-in-law, Tom Brzezinski; and great-grandson, Levi Spear. Surviving George are his children, Valerie (Jim) Moyer, Marcia (Darryl) Spear, Steven Vroman, Kristi Brzezinski, and Mike (Sara) Vroman; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland VFW Post #4090 or the Portland High School Football Program in honor of George.
