Shamrock boys dominate Vestaburg in season opener
Portland St. Patrick’s boys’ basketball opened their season on Tuesday, November 27th with a big win over the visiting Vestaburg Wolverines, with a final score of 63-32.
The Shamrocks started out a little slow in the opening minutes but found their rhythm and ended the first quarter up 18-6. Brandon Scheurer picked up where he left off last year, scoring 12 points in the 1st quarter. Graham Wohlsheid threw in 5 points, and Connor Cross chipped in 1.
In the 2nd quarter, the Shamrocks continued their dominance, with Connor Cross scoring 9, and Sam Mauren scoring 5, and Seth Hoppes put in 2, leading the Shamrocks to a 16-5 advantage, and going into halftime up 34-11.
In the 3rd quarter, the Wolverines came out strong and pushed back a bit, tying the quarter at 10-10.
In the 4th quarter, the Shamrocks had 7 players score, led by Brett Price with a beautiful 3 pointer from the top of the key. The Shamrocks pulled further ahead in the 4th, outscoring the Wolverines 19-11.
Shamrock leaders for the game were Brandon Scheurer with 18 points, 3 assists, and 6 steals. Graham Wohlsheid had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals. Connor Cross had 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block.
The Shamrocks host Webberville Friday, November 30th at 7:30 p.m.
