Body Found at Portland Road Commuter Parking
A commuter parking lot isn’t someplace most people spend much time. Just park your car, hop into your carpool and you’re off to work. Most mornings the commuter parking lot at the intersection of Portland Road and Grand River Ave is an uneventful place. For one early morning passerby, their Monday morning commute took an unexpected turn when they discovered that the man sleeping on the ground nearby was actually dead.
Michigan State Police from the Lakeview Post and Ionia County Sheriff’s Office personnel were on the scene for most of the morning. Passersby reported the heavy police presence on social media, sparking shock, concern, and outrage. By 10:30 AM on Monday when Beacon staff visited the commuter lot, the scene was clear. Calls to the MSP Lakeview Post on Monday afternoon went unanswered as of Monday evening.
A press release received Tuesday from the MSP Lakeview Post confirmed some details reported very early by WILX. At the scene, police found the body of a 56 year old Portland man. Police say the man’s wounds were apparently self inflicted. The weapon was recovered at the scene and they have no reason to suspect foul play. No other details are being released by the MSP at this time.
