Obituary for Shana Lee Kramer

Shana Lee Kramer (neé Short) of Portland, MI returned to her heavenly home on Palm Sunday, March 25, 2018, at the age of 43 after a valiant battle with cancer. Her devotion to her family and her unwavering faith in God supported her throughout her journey, providing ultimate peace and comfort. She displayed strength and joy in the Lord in the face of adversity, inspiring all those around her.

Shana was born to Kenneth and Lois Short, in Midland, MI on October 2, 1974. She grew up as the younger of two girls. She was actively involved in both church and school, attending Calvary Baptist Academy, graduating in 1992. She was a member of the choir, volleyball and cheerleading teams all throughout high school. After graduation, she moved to Colorado where she met her future spouse. On December 12, 1998, she married the love of her life, Terrill Dean Kramer “Terry” in Midland, MI, where they established their home.

Shana was an entrepreneur who enjoyed a myriad of careers from day-care owner to working with her sister at a small boutique to owning her own businesses selling health beverages and jewelry. Her favorite and highest calling was ultimately being a homemaker, wife and mother. Shana was blessed with two beautiful children, Dakotah and Alexis, whom she and Terry raised with laughter and love. Shana created a home full of affection, joy and faith, and enjoyed her role as educator – home schooling her children in addition to being a full-time homemaker. Her children remember her as a ‘cool’, practical-joking mother who not only always made them laugh but also encouraged them to be their best.

She loved to read, treasured her many dogs, delighted in spending time with her family and friends and was renowned for her hostess skills, frequently inviting others to spend holidays and weekends at her home. She was a cohesive force in any situation; bringing people together was a God-given gift she exhibited throughout her life. Shana was kind and fun-loving, and always had time to talk, answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Savior.

Shana is survived by her husband, Terry, her son Kody, and her daughter Lexi, all of Portland, MI; her mother, Lois Short of Midland; her father, Kenneth Short of Midland; her sister Amy Flach and her husband David of Freeland, MI; two nieces, Eden Flach and Michaela Flach; her mother-in-law Beverly Frericks of Phoenix, AZ; her brother-in-law Tracy Kramer and his wife Kristina of Prior Lake, MN; two nieces and a nephew, Maya, Cece and Sam; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Willis and Honor (Chase) Short and Arthur and Myrtle (Chartier) Columbus;and her father-in-law, Harold Kramer.

The cremation took place in San Diego, CA and her family plans to scatter her ashes in places of importance to them. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life in Shana’s honor on Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 1:00-4:00pm at their home in Portland, MI. In lieu of flowers, those planning a donation as an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Kramer children, Kody and Lexi, in care of her husband Terry.
