Portland Raider Softball 2018 Preview

This year’s Portland Raider softball will be young. 

Head coach Jack Anderson says, “This year’s squad will have 13 on the varsity roster, consisting of two seniors, two juniors, five sophomores and four freshman.”

In 2017, the Raiders finished 21 – 15.

This is will be Anderson’s 38th year leading the Raider softball program.   He enters the year with an impressive 929 – 353 career record. 

The Raiders do have two talented pitchers returning from last year in junior Adrianna Novara and senior Abby Grys.  Novara was All CAAC Honorable Mention and All District, while Grys was All CAAC first team.

On the infield, junior Taylor Trierweiler returns at third base after being named All CAAC first team and All District in 2017, and sophomore Jada Walton returns at shortstop after being named All Conference first team.

Sophomore Natalie Linebaugh returns at second base and catcher.

As for his outlook on the season, Anderson says, “Although Portland will be a young this year, it returns eight players that started last season. With strong pitching and a solid infield, the Raiders look to contend for the league title.”
