VFW Recognizes Portland EMT and Firefighter of the Year

On Monday, March 19, VFW Post 4090 introduced their community safety awards winners to the Portland City Council.

Before the introduction of the “Firefighter and Paramedic of the Year”, Commander Bill Almy began with, “The Veterans of Foreign Wars has given our post an opportunity to recognize outstanding community servants. This year Post 4090 would like to honor, two individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.”

The first individual has worked with the Portland Ambulance Service for over three years as an Emergency Medical Technician. He is a hard worker who makes himself always available for extra shifts and calls. He volunteered his time with Olivet Fire Department while attending Olivet College. He is an example of the dedication and professionalism we all can be proud of.

This next individual has over ten years of service as a firefighter. He started as a firefighter, working his way up to lieutenant and now Captain. He is an individual sworn to serve and is well connected with the people of our community. He currently serves both Portland Fire Authority and is a full time Medic for the Portland Ambulance. His leadership skills are an assist the department can count on is all situations.

Commander Almy closed with, “This is an honor for our Post to be involved with the community, and we thank the city of Portland for all you do for our post and our military veterans.”
