Genealogy of a House Presentation February 27th

The Portland Area Historical Society welcomes archivist Jill Arnold at our February 27th meeting. She will be providing a FREE presentation. The public welcome and encouraged to attend. The subject of the presentation will be “Genealogy of a House.”

Are you interested in learning more about the history of your home or other historic building? This program will review a number of primary and secondary sources that can help you identify who originally owned the land, the age of the house, and more about the people who have lived there. The examples will be focused on the Lansing area, but the research strategies and principles can be applied to any geographic area.

Jill Arnold Bio: One of the Archivists frequently helping researchers in the Reading Room, Jill Arnold is a Digital Engagement Archivist with the Archives of Michigan. She works to engage a variety of audiences with Seeking Michigan (http://seekingmichigan.org/) the online platform of the Archives of Michigan. Jill earned a Master of Science in Information with a specialization in Library & Information Science as well as Archives & Records Management from the University of Michigan.

The Portland Area Historical Society meets the 4th Tuesday of each month at Portland Area Service Group, 144 Kent Street, at 6:30 PM. The group does not meet in July or December, and the October meeting is the Cemetery Walk on a Sunday.
