Williamston Proves Too Much for Both Raider Basketball Teams

On Friday night, the Hornets of Williamston proved to be too much for both Raider teams.

 

For the girls match up, Williamston won 45-19.

Leading scorers for the Raiders were senior Shelby Battley with six, sophomore Jada Walton with five, and juniors Lesley Barker and Olivia Sandborn each scoring four.

 

Leading scorers for the Hornets were sophomore Evey Peplowski with 11, sophomore Kenzie Lewis with 10, and senior Allison Peplowski with nine.

 

To give readers an idea of the size difference between the two programs, at least according to heights listed in the program, Williamston had three players over six-foot-tall (two at 6’2” and one at 6’1”) while the Raiders tallest players are 5’9”. 

 

Portland moves to a one win and nine loss record on the season, while the Hornets stay undefeated at 13-0.

 

 

For the boys, Williamston won 68-22.

Leading scorers for the Raiders were senior Brock Gross with seven, junior Blake Patrick with six, and sophomore Owen Russel with three. 

 

Senior Bryce Snitgen, senior Joshua Salas and junior Tate Dziewiatkowski each contributed two points for the Raiders.

 

Leading scorers for the Hornets were senior Caleb Smith and junior Sean Cobb with 12 each, along with junior Case Conley and senior Cole Kleiver each with 10. 

 

As for the tail of the tape in the boys contest, Portland’s tallest player is 6’4”, while Williamston had three players listed at 6’7”. 

 

Portland boys move to a 1-7 record on the season, while the Hornets move to 10-2.

 

Both Raiders teams next action will be against Charlotte on Tuesday, January 23rd.   The girls will be at Charlotte while the boys will be home.
