Miller Gets 100th Win as Raiders Take First at Olivet

The Portland High School wrestling team took first place at the Olivet High School tournament on Friday night.
Raiders Jacob Vroman, Jared Thelen, Ethan Getchell, Desmond Gardner, Ryan Ramsey, Devin Miller, Owen Guilford and Doak Manshum were the individual champions for their weight classes.
Senior Devin Miller earned his 100th career high school wrestling win. The so-called century club is quite a feat for a high school wrestler.
According to PHS head coach Andy Pulling, “It is rare for a wrestler to get 100 wins, especially since the recent decision by the MHSAA to limit wrestling in weight ins, competitions and reduced our season length to 14 weeks.”
When asked about his accomplishment, Devin Miller said, “Entering high school I️ was confident that I️ would be able to reach my goal of achieving 100 wins. It took a lot of hard work, and help from my coaches, parents, and workout partners to help me get to where I️ am at. I️ am excited that I️ have achieved my goal, but look forward to meeting many new goals that I️ have set out to accomplish in my high school career.”
Parents Chad and Nikki Miller said, “We are incredibly proud of Devin and his accomplishments both on and off the mat. He has always set goals for himself and worked hard to achieve them. In high school wrestling the Century Club is a special honor and something Devin has always sought to accomplish. It is a joy to see his hard work and dedication paying off. We are looking forward to another exciting wrestling season!”
Coach Pulling went on to say, “Devin is a standout person, student and wrestler. He has been a captain for multiple teams for multiple years and does a tremendous job looking out for and leading his teammates in and out of sports. Devin lives wrestling, often times talking with me about collegiate results and his future in his academic and athletic careers. Devin is one of those athletes that coaches start the conversation with, "If I had a team full of kids like him....". As his teacher and coach, I appreciate how Devin navigates life's obstacles, works hard, makes decisions and carries himself. What a tremendous person.”
