Obituary for Gale D. Bowerman

Gale Don Bowerman, age 81, of Barryton, formerly of Holt, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017. He was born November 15, 1936 in Big Rapids, Michigan, the son of William and Nellie (Rose) Bowerman. Gale was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of the V.F.W., and a devoted employee at Montgomery Ward, retiring after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Detroit Tigers, NASCAR, and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Gale loved going to his grandson Joshua's baseball and football games and watching both of his grandchildren play sports. Joshua and Rebecca were the apple of his eye and he loved them both with all of his heart. He was especially proud of his new Pontoon and looked forward to going fishing next Summer. He loved watching the birds, deer, and turkeys at his daughter's house and would sit outside for hours enjoying everything nature had to offer. He also made several special memories over the past few years when traveling to the N.T.P.A Enderly Tractor Pulls in Ohio with his son, Kirt and grandson, Joshua. Surviving Gale are his beloved wife of 60 years, Loretta (Hudson) Bowerman; children, Colleen Horstmyer and Kirt Bowerman; grandchildren, Rebecca (Luke) Massie and Joshua Horstmyer; siblings, Linda Beech, Cheryl (Tom) Brock, Shelley Ritter, and Sandi Smith; brother-in-law, Darrell Hudson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Bryan Bowerman; son-in-law, Lee Horstmyer; brothers, Duke and Lynn Bowerman; sister, Alice Tygesen; and sister-in-law, Kathy Hudson. The family would like to thank Roger, Janice, and Norma for all they have done for Gale over the past year. Their selfless acts of kindness are greatly appreciated by the family. The Memorial Service will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. A luncheon at the Portland V.F.W., Post #4090 will immediately follow the service.
