15 Raiders advanced to Wrestling Individual Regionals
It was Districts week for the Portland Raider Wrestlers in both teams and individual competition. In exciting news, 15 Raiders advanced to Individual Regionals.
On 2/8, fourteen Boys Varsity qualifiers traveled to Montrose to compete in Individual Districts. Eleven of them advanced to Regionals! Champions in their weight classes were Bradley Meyers (165), Branlun Simon (106), and Landon Lanz (113). Also on the podium for the Raiders were G. Williams (190, 2nd), B. Spitzley (215, 3rd), S. Dakin (120, 4th), A. Feldpausch (126, 3rd), I. Kramer (132, 2nd), G. Opperman (144, 2nd), M. McGregor (150, 2nd), and L. Guilford (165, 2nd).
Nine Lady Raider wrestlers from the Girls' team traveled to Hastings on 2/9 to compete in the Girls Individual Districts. Four of them advanced to Regionals! Champion in her weight class was Georgia Stahl (105). Also on the podium for the Raiders were K. Fuller (130, 2nd), R. Johns (235, 3rd), and A. Pettit (110, 4th). A remarkable performance for the individual Varsity Raider wrestlers from both teams!
Earlier in the week, the #7 ranked Varsity A team travelled to Central Montcalm on 2/6 for Districts and, despite remaining close in team points for most of the meet, fell in a close contest to #6 ranked Lakewood 31-34. Winning points for the Raiders were G. Opperman (144), B. Meyers (175), G. Williams (190), B. Simon (106), L. Lanz (113), S. Dakin (120) and Landon Guilford (165) with a 38-second pin. As this brings the Raider’s Varsity team season to its conclusion with a 19-8 record. We celebrate their hard work and achievements as a team as the 15 wrestlers advance to Individual Regionals.
