Young Entrepreneur's Venture is For the Dogs…and Their Owners!
Every dog owner loves their furry friends, but not many enjoy cleaning up after them. Enter young entrepreneur Brayden Jorae, age 9, of Potterville. His new business venture seeks to solve that age old problem of what to do with all that doo.
His new business called Scoop-a-Poo was inspired by a video he saw online about a kid who started a similar business. “It was a young kid like me who started his business and became successful. I knew that people didn’t like to scoop poop so I wanted to do that job for them,” says Jorae. Seeing gold where others see brown dog doo has been a winning strategy for him so far. He charges 5 dollars for a small yard, 10 for a medium size yard or 20 for larger yards.
Jorae is based out of Potterville and his mom drives him around. He likes to schedule 5-6 appointments in a community for a given day. The area of operations for his business is roughly a 30-40 minute drive from Potterville. Exploring mid-Michigan on the job has other benefits too. “I really like doing this because we explore different areas and it’s like a fun adventure to me,” Jorae says.
He also likes getting to know this customer’s and their dogs. “I also like getting pictures with my customers, if I can they become like friends,” he says, “I play with their dogs sometimes.” One one recent appointment, he made a connection with a lady who wanted to support his business endeavor with a gift of a new pooper scooper tool and gloves, and even a snack of homemade blueberry muffins. “It was so nice of her. I wasn't expecting that. I am very thankful for all my customers,” Jorae says. Brayden is also keen to pay it forward and has pledged to donate 5% of his earnings to a local animal shelter.
When not busy scooping dog poo, Brayden likes spending time with family, playing pool, basketball, football and golf as well as geocaching. He is also an avid player of the video game Roblox. And, he is a math wiz!
Brayden is planning to be back in Portland on June 4th and is taking appointments now. To learn more about Scoop-a-Poo you can check out his page on Facebook or call 517-599-8791.
