Where Good Friends Meet - Saturday August 27th at the 6th Annual RED MILL COMMUNITY DAY 9am-9pm
It’s that time of the year when the Friends Of The Red Mill group brings the community together for a celebration at The Red Mill Pavilion & Bogue Flats parks.
The Portland Civic Players start off the day welcoming their 4rd Annual 5K Drama Run/Walk at Bogue Flats for a 8am start ($30 pre-registration only Deadline Aug 19) – www.portlandcivicplayers.com). The Red Mill Community Day has grown over the years needing the closure of Water St between Bud Plant Drive and Morse St to hold over 50+ Art, Craft, nonprofits & business vendors for the public to visit from 9am-3pm. The Kids Peddle Tractor Pulls, sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions (Ages 0-9 with registration at htts://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040F4FAEAF22A4FD0-kids or by contacting 517.743.1830). Pulls will start at 12:00 pm and will take place on Water St near Morse St. This year, in addition to the kids tractor pulls, there will be a modified garden tractor for the 10+ thru adult group. The Portland Historical Society will host a pop-up Portland Museum inside The Old Red Mill you can visit while enjoying the live music from the “Porch Picker”band. Seasonal favorites may be grabbed from any of the 24 Old Red Mill Farmers Market vendors in and around the Red Mill Pavilion. Scattered around the park grounds will be Ole Time demonstrations of chain saw carving, wood carvers; portable saw-mill, and tractors old and new. Check out the beautiful two rivers just a block away from the park by taking a Covered Wagon ride, sponsored by Sparrow. The youth may enjoy pony rides, a visit to the animal petting farm as well as the Methodist Church hosting a kids foam pit with bubbles. The Portland Congregational Church will be there with a face painting booth. The Epic Church will be sponsoring an inflatable obstacle course. Many local, county and state police, fire and/or ambulance vehicles maybe explored by all. Stop to say Hi to the men, women and MSP K9 unit while you're there. The Portland Blue Sox Vintage Baseball Team will have a game starting at 4pm at Bogue Flats that will be a grand slam. With these activities and the summer heat will make you thirsty and hungry. We have plenty of Food Trucks and Food Vendors to satisfy your cravings any time of the day; breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We round off this wonderful day celebrating summer with a FREE concert, Frog and the Beeftones, sponsored by PFCU, in The Red Mill Pavilion starting at 6pm. So grab family or friends and a lawn chair as you don’t want to miss this 60's and 70's rock and roll band! And yes there will be Food & Beverage Trucks available to grab dinner while enjoying the live music.
There is something for everyone to enjoy at the 6th Annual Red Mill Community Day celebration, no matter your age. We can’t wait to see everyone!!
