On Memorial Day, Monday May 25th, Portland’s VFW Post 4090 has a number of events scheduled.
8:00 AM to 9:30 AM - Memorial Day Breakfast at VFW 4090.
Free breakfast for veterans. All are welcome to eat for donation.
10:00 AM - Memorial Day Ceremony 2026 at Portland Cemetery.
VFW 4090, Auxiliary, and American Legion 129 will be holding a remembrance ceremony for our fallen comrades. Remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice over the past 250 years of our country.
1000: Opening of ceremony at Veterans Memorial Bridge
1015: Remarks by the American Legion 129 commander at the WW2 memorial on the corner of James and Bridge Streets
1040: Main ceremony held at the G.A.R. Memorial in the Portland Cemetery
12:00 PM to 2:00 PM - Memorial Day Chicken BBQ at VFW 4090.
Chicken BBQ luncheon includes half a chicken, baked potato, beans, and dessert. Open to the public for a fee.
All proceeds benefit VFW 4090 and the Portland United Methodist Church.
