Three local softball players team up to win 16U State Championship

During the regular high school softball season, you will see Rylee Scheurer and Addie Scheurer as regular fixtures for the St. Patrick Shamrock squad, while Jayden Townsend holds the same distinction for the Portland High School team.

But once the regular high school season is over, these three local softball standouts play together for Krash 16U out of Lansing. This Krash team includes talented athletes from several mid-Michigan area high schools, including Grand Ledge, DeWitt, Owosso, Mason, Laingsburg, Stockbridge, and Jackson Northwest.

This past weekend, the Krash 16U team traveled to Canton, MI, where they went undefeated and won the USSSA Gold State Championship.

The team defeated the Garden City Gators 5-2, Hurricanes Fastpitch 4-3, Michigan Storm 9-4, SGS Magic 12-0, TBD 8-0, and finally defeated the Saginaw Golds 6-3 in the championship game.

When asked about her team’s success, Krash 16U coach Kaelin Cross said, “This group has dedicated themselves to what the team needs. They care for each other deeply and know how pull out the best in each other. As a coach, it’s dream come true to watch/manage this group.”

As for the trio hailing from Portland, Cross said, “Addie, Jayden and Rylee are a perfect example of ‘stay humble and work hard.’ They are for The Team always. Their speed gives an edge against any team… I guess it’s a Portland thing! The three of them have been friends and playing softball for their community since they were little. That bond makes us better, they fight for each other.”
