The Brook Retirement Communities: Senior Living Done Well


The Brook is an independent living and assisted living community located in Portland. Joseph Marlow serves it as building manager.


“We offer services to people who are completely independent all the way up to people who need end of life care,” said Marlow.


The Brook has been operating in Portland since August 2020. Anyone who is fifty-five years of age or older may reside there. The facility provides one and two bedroom apartments with full kitchens and patios to its independent living residents and it offers studio and one bedroom apartments with a kitchenette to its assisted living clients. The common areas of the community include a salon, a theater, an arts and crafts room and a library along with five living areas that are similar to living rooms in private homes. The main dining room offers residents up to three meals a day. A nurse is on staff at The Brook.


“Our rates are affordable and we are great a customizing care packages to meet every stage of a person’s needs,” said Marlow.


Marlow said that people’s loved ones are well cared for at The Brook.


“We offer seniors a lifestyle to meet their needs for security, companionship, and convenience,” he said. “We do this without restricting their independence.”


Personal care services for individuals who are indisposed include showering, dressing, medication management, and physical transfer into wheelchairs and into beds.


“We want people to know that we care about their their loved ones and that their loved ones are safe here,” said Marlow.


Marlow said that The Brook is a special place.


“We offer residents more than an apartment,” he said. “We offer seniors a home whether they are fully independent or whether they are in need of help. We provide opportunities for new experiences, social interaction, and worry-free living.”


Marlow said that he and his staff are proud of offer these services to seniors in the community.


“These are needed services that meet the needs of the people here,” he said. “Making the decision to move into senior living can be very difficult and The Brook is here to help guide people make the right decision. I encourage interested individuals to visit The Brook of Portland and to see first hand why our residents love living here.”
