St. Patrick boys lose in the final second to Fowler
The Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks welcomed the Fowler Eagles for a CMAC match on Thursday, December 16th. It was an incredible game, but in the last second, the Fowler Eagles hit a free throw to win the game 43-42.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks came out aggressive and balanced. Payton Russman led the scoring with 4 points, and Derec Fedewa, Shane Cook, Alex Fedewa and Braxton Teachworth all put in buckets to give the Shamrocks a 12-9 lead.
The second quarter saw the Eagles fly into the lead, with Payton again leading the Shamrocks with 5 points, but the Eagles won the quarter 11-7 and took a 20-19 lead into the half.
After halftime, both teams came out fired up, and playing hard. The Shamrocks were led by Derec Fedewa who had 5 points as the Shamrocks won the quarter 13-12 and left the game tied at 32-32 after three quarters.
The final quarter was every bit as exciting as the rest of the game, with the Eagles stretching into a 5 point advantage early in the quarter. St. Patrick stormed back and tied the game up with under a minute to go. Freshmen Brayden Simon led the Shamrocks with 6 points (4 for 4 from the line), but the Shamrocks came up just a bit short as the Fowler Eagles won in the end.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Brayden Simon who had 10 points 5 rebounds, Payton Russman had 9 points, and Derec Fedewa had 9 points.
The Shamrocks next play after the Christmas Break, on January 4th at home against Dansville.
