Simpson and Bower Punch their Ticket to the State Track Finals
The weather man said there would be rain for the Regional Track Finals at Mason High School Friday, May 19th, and he wasn’t lying! But, that didn’t stop a couple very focused veteran Raiders Throwers from punching their tickets to the State Finals on June 2nd. Just as predicted, as soon as the meet got going, the clouds opened up and the rain got going too. That didn’t stop Noah Simpson and Evan Bower in a sloppy Discus ring in the middle of the rain. Simpson even smacked his own School Record again with a throw of 168 feet in the downpour. Logan Rogers and Andrew Edick also finished off their season right qualifying in the Discus and their first Regional Finals, Andrew in his first season!
Over on the Track, sophomore Chris Battley has been a great late season addition to the Raiders Track team and he battled a very fast group in the 100m just missing the Finals and Medal with a 9th place finish. Chris has had a great season and the Raiders are expecting big things from him in the future! Freshman Nolan Zbytowski moved up several spots in the 200m, but failed to make the Finals as well. Nolan is a strong sprinter and has a bright future getting valuable experience in his first Regional Meet. Down with the flu all week, Sophomore Brody Sanborn ran a gutsy 400m race and grabbed himself a 7th place medal. In his first year of Track at his first Regional competition, Matthew Seavey ran a solid 2:08.12 800m and Seavey also finished 11th in a very fast 1600m field of competitors with 4 State Qualifiers. Freshman Owen Moore wanted to compete in both the 1600m and 3200m for the experience and ran two very solid races, finishing 15th in the 1600m. Isaac Dakin and William May both PR’d again in the 110 hurdles in their first Regional races. A disappointed Makyah Mora lost his shoe on the final turn in a tightly contested 300 hurdle race, finishing in a water soaked sock. The 4x100 Relay of Battley, Mora, Dustin Wolf and Mason McGregor grabbed a 7th Place Medal, then switched Zbytowski for Mora in the 4x200 and picked up another 7th Place Medal, then switched in Sanborn for Battley picked up 6th Place Medals.
