Shamrocks start out playoffs with a bang

The Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks hosted the Marion Eagles for the first round of the 2025 playoffs. The Shamrocks are entering the playoffs as the #1 seed, and Marion is coming in as the #14 seed, and it showed. The Shamrocks started a little sloppy and sluggish, but in the end the Shamrocks dominated, winning the game 62-16.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks drove down the field, just running power football. Hudson King finished the first drive with a 2-yard punch in, and Brady Leonard finished the second drive with a 7-yard run. Brody Beckhold finished both, and the score was 14-0 after 1 quarter of play.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks popped to life, with Brady Leonard blowing some fire and busting loose for 50- and 39-yard touchdown runs. Jerry Scheurer added in two of his own, running from 3 yards and 19 yards. Brody Beckhold made the first two kicks, and Tyler Thelen made the second two, making the score 42-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter there was a little back and forth, as Hudson King broke lose for a 39-yard touchdown run, before the Eagles finally answered back. Emmet Fandel broke lose next, running for a 28-yard touchdown, before the Eagles scored again. Brody Beckhold went 1 for 2 from extra points to make the score 55-16 after three quarters of play.
In the fourth quarter, Mason Simon had the lone Shamrock touchdown, punching it in from 2 yards. Brody Beckhold made the kick, and the final score was 62-16.
Defensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Ben White with 7 tackles and 1 tackle for loss (TFL), Augustus Teachworth with 8 tackles, Aiden Mosser with 7 tackles, Mason Simon with 6 tackles, and James Miller had 6 tackles as well.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Brady Leonard with 8 carries for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hudson King had 9 carries for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jerryd Scheurer went 5 for 5 for 52 yards and carried the ball 2 times for 22 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Shamrocks host Mendon next Saturday (time TBD). Mendon did not play their first-round game, after Grand Rapids Sacred Heart was forced to forfeit.
