Shamrocks pull out thriller over Perry
The Portland St. Patrick Shamrock boys basketball continued their winning ways on Thursday, February 8th when they travelled to Perry and knocked off the Ramblers in overtime, winning 73-70.
In the first quarter, Brayden Simon came out hot, knocking in three 3 pointers and scoring 11 to lead the Shamrocks to an 18-12 advantage.
In the second quarter, the Shamrocks extended their lead, winning the quarter 14-13 and taking a 32-25 lead into halftime. Brayden Simon continued to play well, this time going 5 for 6 from the free throw line, and making a 3 pointer as well.
After the half, Perry clawed their way back into the game, winning the quarter 21-16 and making it a two point game at 48-46 with the Shamrocks still leading. Charlie Thelen had a great quarter, scoring 11 for the Shamrocks.
In the fourth quarter, the Ramblers again outscored the Shamrocks, winning the quarter 14-12 and tying the game up in regulation. The Shamrocks had Brady Leonard, Landon Simpson, Brayden Simon and Charlie Thelen all chip in 3 points a piece, to leave the score 60-60 at the end.
In overtime, the Shamrocks showed great maturity and competitiveness, outlasting the Ramblers and pulling out a 73-70 victory. Charlie Thelen had 5 points to lead the Shamrocks.
Offensive leaders for Portland St. Patrick were Brayden Simon with 31 points 9 rebounds, Charlie Thelen with 22 points 8 rebounds, Jerryd Scheurer with 8 points 9 assists, and Landon Simpson with 7 points 3 assists and 2 steals.
The Shamrocks return to action at home next week, when they host Lansing Christian on Tuesday, February 13th.
