Shamrocks handle their business against Manistee Catholic Central
On Saturday, October 10th the St. Patrick Shamrocks headed north to Manistee for homecoming against the MCC Sabres. The Sabres came out to play, giving the Shamrocks a little challenge in a 46-28 Shamrock victory.
In the first quarter, the Shamrock offense sputtered a bit, before fumbling the ball into their own endzone. Defensively they were solid, and there was no score in the first quarter.
The Shamrocks woke up in the second quarter with Derec Fedewa punching one in from five yards and Payton Russman driving in for a two-yard touchdown. Derec Fedewa scored the two-point conversion, and the score was 14-0 at halftime.
After the half, the Shamrocks again were successful defensively, and they scored on an eight-yard pass from Connor Cross to Shane Cook. Connor Cross then took it in himself on a five-yard QB scramble. This left the score 26-0 after three quarters of football.
The fourth quarter saw a ton of scoring, led by Payton Russman receiving an eight yard pass from Cross, leaving the score 34-0 early in the fourth quarter. The Shamrock defense gave up a few scores on missed coverages, and the Sabres took advantage leading to four Sabre touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Shamrocks responded with Lucas Simon breaking a 53-yard touchdown run, and Derec Fedewa breaking an 80-yard run, leaving the final score 46-28.
Offensive leaders were Derec Fedewa with 17 carries for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns and one reception for 42 yards. Connor Cross went 3-7 for 58 yards and two touchdowns, and he also had 9 carries for 96 yards.
Defensive leaders for St. Patrick were Derec Fedewa who had 7 tackles and 1 tackle for loss (TFL), Lucas Simon had 6 tackles and 1 TFL, and Shane Cook had 6 tackles.
The Shamrocks host Merrill next Saturday at 2 pm at Portland High School. The Merrill Vandals are ranked #4 in the state and are sitting at 4-0. It should be a very good football game.
