Shamrock Softball splits with Perry

St. Patrick’s Varsity Softball their first home games on Thursday. It also kicked off the start of league play for the Shamrocks. St Patrick split with the Perry Ramblers with an 11-0 victory and a loss 4-6 in the second game.

Game 1: 11-0

Tori Sandborn pitched a shutout game to start the evening. She had two strikeouts and gave up only one walk. The team played strong defense behind Tori and Hannah Weller held runners from extra bases behind the plate.

Offensively Rylee Scheurer led the Shamrocks going 2/3 with 2 RBIs and a home run! Tori Sandborn had 2 RBIs and a double, Lily Sandborn and Laynie Meredith each added an RBI, and Gracelyn Rockey had a solo home run.

Game 2: 4-6

Tori Sandborn pitched another complete game and added a strikeout. Unfortunately, the Shamrocks didn’t hold the same offensive presence as game one and struggled to find hits. Rylee Scheurer continued to lead the Shamrocks going 3/3 with 2 runs, and a double. Addie Scheurer went 2/4 and had 2 runs, and Tori Sandborn had 2 RBIs.

Coaching Staff Comments:

Tonight was our home opener as well as the start of league play, and we defensively made the plays we needed to compete in both games. The difference between game one and game two is primarily our offensive presence. In game one we hit gaps, made solid contact and came with an aggressive approach at the plate. In game two we missed some of those areas and it led to miss opportunities with girls in scoring position. Our league is a continuous battle of both ends of the field and we knew tonight would be the start of that battle.

Our seniors continue to lead in the areas that set us apart. Rylee is our consistent catalyst on offense, Tori and Hannah have a great connection in the pitcher- catcher combo, Addie takes away the left side infield and Rylee and Laynie cover and direct traffic in the OF. If we continue to grow around them we will be in good shape. The Shamrocks continue league play with PW and Bath next week.
