Shamrock Softball drops two to Laingsburg

St. Patrick Varsity softball hosted Laingsburg on Thursday for the first league contests. The Shamrocks fell short in both, but offered strong competition with excellent pitching.

Game 1: Final Score: 5-15

Rylee Scheurer went 1 for 3, with a walk, 2 runs, stolen base and an RBI. Addie Scheurer went 2 for 4. Carly Scheurer added 2 RBIs, and Mara Schrauben and Aurora Beckhold each added an RBI. Carly Scheurer threw 6 innings and Tori Sandborn threw one. Both girls had great control and pitch placement, but Laingsburg attacked the plate.

Game 2: Final Score: 4-7

Rylee Scheurer went 4 for 4 and had two stolen bases. Lydia Meredith went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Carly Scheurer added 2 RBIs. And Aurora Beckhold went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Rylee Scheurer pitched all seven innings with excellent pitch placement and velocity, she ended the game with 8 strikeouts.

Coaches Comments:

This evening our girls had energy, communication, excellent plate appearances and played with tremendous heart. Offensively, we found ways to set ourselves up in scoring position (often!!) but struggled to finish the inning and score. Defensively, we couldn’t have asked our pitchers to do a better job for us. They mixed their speed and pitches well, and hit the spots we asked them to. Laingsburg dug out hits that were respected by our staff and that’s something we can rest our head on tonight. Addie did phenomenal job behind the plate and held runners to the base that they occupied. All in all, we got better tonight and will continue to as well. We look forward to PW and Saranac next week for some league redemption opportunities.
