Shamrock Men's Basketball season preview

The Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks are looking for success this season after the men had a very exciting finish to last season. Despite only having a 7-15 season last year, the Shamrocks were a very young squad that only found their identity late in the season.

The roster looks solid with returning contributors Brayden Simon (Jr. G/F- two time 2nd team all conference), Jerryd Scheurer (Freshmen, started at PG as an 8th grader), Charlie Thelen (Soph. Returning Starter F) Landon Simpson (Jr. Returning starter G), Devin Cook (Sr. Returning Starter F). Newcomers that should contribute are Brady Leonard (Soph. G) Tyler Groothuis (Sr. Center) Lucas Simon (Sr. G) Nathan Fears (Jr. G) Grant Pline (Jr. F) and Gabe Wernet (Jr. G).

Coach Curtis Meyers is excited for the season, "With returning the bulk of our scoring we hope to really get after it defensively this year in order continuously get better throughout the year as we shoot for the first district title since 1995". From a historical Shamrock perspective, players on the 1995 team that eventually made it to the semi-finals, included Dan Thelen (current player Charlie's father) and Brian Scheurer (current player Jerryd's father).
