Shamrock boys sweep Laingsburg
On Thursday, April 29th, the Shamrocks hosted the Laingsburg Wolfpack for a doubleheader. The Wolfpack played great defense, and the Shamrocks struggled a bit at the plate but were still able to pull out a sweep, with St. Patricks winning both games 3-1 and 5-3.
In the first game, Shane Cook picked up the win on the mound, pitching all 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk and recording 5 strikeouts. Shane Cook and Braxton Teachworth both went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead the Shamrocks offensively.
In the second game, Evan Schrauben got the win on the mound. Evan threw for 4 innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 7. Connor Cross also pitched for 3 innings, giving up 0 hits, striking out 6 and walking 3. Shane Cook led the Shamrocks offensively, again going 2 for 3, with 1 RBI. Connor Cross went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Braxton Teachworth also went 1 for 3.
Coach Dan Thelen was pleased with the outcome. "We got two good wins against a solid team. This keeps us in the league race with a big double header again an excellent PW team on Monday. Once again our pitching was key, and we had a couple of timely hits that got us the win."
The Shamrocks travel to Westphalia for a double header against the 11-1 Pirates on Monday, May 3rd. The first game begins at 4:00 pm.
