Shamrock boys outlast Saranac

On Wednesday, the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks visited Saranac for a basketball game with the Redskins. Both teams came in with only 1 win, with the Shamrocks having lost close games to Dansville and Laingsburg. The Shamrocks played a solid overall game and won 43-37.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks came out hot and put up a 12-2 lead before the Redskins hit some threes to make it a close game. After one quarter, the Shamrocks were leading 17-15. Connor Cross had 7 points, and Shane Cook had 6 points to lead.
In the second quarter, The Redskins clawed their way back in, finding open looks in the Shamrock zone defense. Saranac won the quarter 11-6 and took a 26-23 lead into halftime. Shane Cook had 4 points, and Connor Cross put in the other 2.
The Shamrocks tightened up their defense in the third quarter, and only gave up 7 points, while scoring 11 leaving the Shamrocks leading 34-33 going into the final quarter. Missed free throws kept it close, with the Shamrocks shooting 4-10 from the line. Chase Fitzsimmons came up big in the quarter, scoring 6 points and pulling down some rebounds.
In the final quarter, the Shamrocks held on and played great defense, holding Saranac to only 4 points and scoring 9. Connor Cross led with 4 points.
Game leaders were Shane Cook with 13 points 8 steals and 8 rebounds, Connor Cross with 14 points and 9 rebounds, Chase Fitzsimmons with 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Brice Cook with 6 rebounds.
The Shamrocks are next playing at P-W on Friday, March 12th.
