Shamrock boys lose close one to Laingsburg


St. Patrick hosted the Wolfpack from Laingsburg on Tuesday for a boys basketball matchup. The first half was unbelievably tight, with no team able to get much going offensively, but in the second half the Wolfpack was able to outscore the surging Shamrocks, and win 36-33.


In the first quarter, both teams played sweltering defense, with the Wolfpack scoring 6, and Chase Fitzsimmons scoring 4 for the Shamrocks.


The second quarter saw more of the same, with the Shamrocks again scoring 4 and the Wolfpack scoring 7. This left the Wolfpack leading 13-8 going into halftime.


After the half, the Wolfpack came out and surged, scoring 15 in the half, while the Shamrocks could only put up 7. This left the Wolfpack up 28-15 going into the final quarter. Connor Cross scored 6 points in the third.


In the final quarter, the Shamrocks finally found their offensive groove, led by Connor Cross who put up 10 points, and made 4 of 5 free throws. Unfortunately, the Wolfpack had built up to much of a lead, and the Shamrocks couldn't overcome it in the end.


Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Connor Cross who scored 18 points 7 rebounds 3 steals and 1 block, Chase Fitzsimmons with 5 points 7 rebounds and 1 steal. Brice Cook also hit the boards hard and came up with 7 rebounds.
