Shamrock boys drop a close one to Dansville
Starting out the 2020 basketball season in 2021, the Shamrocks of St. Patrick travelled to Dansville for a matchup with the Aggies. It was a good game, with the Shamrocks leading late in the game, but the Aggies made their freethrows and were able to outlast the Shamrocks 53-51.
In the first quarter, Aggies took a 14-11 lead. The Shamrocks were lead by Chase Fitzsimmons and Shane Cook who both put in 4 points.
The second quarter was very similar, with Dansville extending their lead with a 15-12 quarter. Connor Cross led the Shamrocks with 6 points, and Braxton Teachworth put in 4 points. This left Dansville leading 29-23 at halftime.
After the half, Coach Pettit must have lit the Shamrock sneakers on fire, because they came out hard and won the quarter 20-12. This had the Shamrocks with the lead going into the final quarter, 43-41. The Shamrocks were led by Evan Schrauben who hit three 3 pointers and another two, and Connor Cross also threw in 4.
In the final quarter, the Aggies made 8 out of 9 freethrows and ended up squeaking out a victory. The Aggies outscored the Shamrocks 12-8 in the 4th. Evan Schrauben continue his hot streak, hitting two more 3 pointers.
Leading scorers for the Shamrocks were Evan Schrauben with 20 points, Shane Cook with 11 points, 5 steals and 3 assists, Connor Cross with 10 points and 3 assists, Braxton Teachworth with 6 points, and Chase Fitzsimmons with 4 points and 8 rebounds.
The Shamrocks play next Tuesday, February 16th at Home against Bath.
