Shamrock boys defeat Lansing Christian




On Monday, January 15th the Portland St. Patrick Shamrocks travelled to Lansing to play the Lansing Christian Pilgrims. The Shamrocks dominated from start to finish, winning the game 74-30.


In the first quarter, the Shamrocks came out strong, led by Charlie Thelen's 15 points, and took a 25-7 lead after the quarter. 


The second quarter saw Brayden Simon lead the Shamrocks with 9 points, and the Shamrocks extended their lead, smothering the Pilgrims and winning the quarter 21-2, taking a 46-9 lead into halftime. 


The third quarter saw Lansing Christian liven up a bit, as the Pilgrims won the quarter 15-11 and cut the Shamrock lead to 57-24. The Shamrocks had balanced scoring between Jerryd Scheurer, Lucas Simon, Charlie Thelen, and Landon Simpson who led with 4 points.


The fourth quarter brought more Shamrock defense, holding the Pilgrims to just 6 points, while scoring 17. More balance from the Shamrock offense, with Brady Leonard leading the Shamrocks with 5, and Gabe Wernet, Lucas Simon, Tyler Groothuis, Charlie Thelen, and Grant Pline all chipping in baskets. 


Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Charlie Thelen with 24 points and 4 assists, Brayden Simon had 11 points, Landon Simpson had 9 points and 3 steals, Brady Leonard had 8 points, and Jerryd Scheurer had 8 points and 8 assists. Tyler Groothuis and Devin Cook both had 5 rebounds each. The Shamrocks will host Saranac on Wednesday, January 17th.
