Shamrock boys break into win column
After a difficult first three games, and a few close losses, the Shamrocks of St. Patrick finally put it all together on Friday, February 26th and beat a 6-1 Carson City-Crystal Team 48-46.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks were led by Tristan Huhn, who put in a three pointer and another driving jumper, enroute to a tight 9-10 quarter where the Eagles took a slight lead.
In the second quarter, the Eagles were led by their freshmen point guard who went off and hit 5 three pointers, and led the Eagles to a 15-13 quarter win, taking a 25-22 lead into halftime. The Shamrocks had balanced scoring, with five different players scoring in the quarter.
In the third quarter, there was another tight quarter, with the Eagles again outscoring the Shamrocks 10-9. The Shamrocks had another great team effort, with four players scoring in the quarter. This left the score 35-31 going into the fourth quarter.
The Shamrocks put together a fantastic effort in the final quarter, holding the Eagle leading scorer to 0 points, and won the quarter 13-9, taking the game into overtime. Connor Cross led the Shamrocks with 6 points.
In overtime, the Shamrocks held the Eagles to a single basket, and Chase FItzsimmons scored a bucket, and hit two clutch free throws to win the game.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Chase Fitzsimmons with 11 points, Shane Cook with 9 points, and Tristan Huhn with 8 points. The Shamrocks next play on Tuesday, March 2nd, in a Varsity Doubleheader with the girls, at Home against Laingsburg.
