State Rep. Gina Johnsen and the Michigan House of Representatives has approved three key resolutions to help raise awareness about human trafficking.

Johnsen, a longtime advocate against human trafficking, currently serves on the Board of Directors for House of Promise, a home for women exiting human trafficking situations.

“Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery and a scourge upon our society,” said Johnsen, R-Lake Odessa. “It’s a horrific crime with countless innocent victims who need our support. We all must learn more about human trafficking and, more importantly, take proactive steps to effectively end it.”

Johnsen helped sponsor House Resolution 8, which declares January 2023 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in the state of Michigan. The first-term legislator also helped sponsor HR 7, which declared Jan. 9-13, 2023 as Human Trafficking Awareness Week; and HR 9, which declared Jan. 11, 2023, as Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Michigan.
