Raiders top Cadillac 29-22 in season opener

The Portland Raider football team traveled to Cadillac on Thursday for their week one contest.
The teams battled hard and the score stayed close for most of the game.
With 1:55 left on the clock in the fourth quarter, the game was tied 22-22, and the Raiders had the ball and were putting together a nice offensive drive.
The Raiders had a first down and ten situation at the Cadillac 21-yard line. Portland gave the ball to senior running back Carson Spenski three plays in a row, and were sitting fourth and four at the Cadillac 15 yard-line with 1:02 left on the clock.
Cadillac was forced to use their final time out of the half.
On the next play, Portland junior quarterback Carson Simon connected with senior Alex Atwell for a stunning 15-yard touchdown pass giving Portland a 28-22 lead.

Junior kicker Chase Fullet’s extra point was perfect, extending the Portland lead to 29-22 with just 57 seconds left in the game.
The Cadillac offense would get to work from their own 25 with 51 seconds left. Cadillac attempted passes on the first three plays and each fell incomplete with the Raider defense applying some nice pressure on the Viking quarterback.
On fourth down and 10 with just 34.4 second left on the clock Cadillac attempted one more pass, but Portland senior Tristan Pohl came through with a clutch quarterback sack ending Cadillac’s threat and causing a turnover on downs.
The Raiders were able to take a knee to run out the clock and secure a 29-22 victory.
Up next, the Raiders will face Lansing Sexton at home on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. Sexton defeated Lansing Everett 33-0 in their week one contest.
