Raider Softball falls to Lakewood in a nail-biter
On Tuesday, the Portland High School softball team hosted Lakewood for what was supposed to be a double header in CAAC White play.
Game 1: Lakewood 18, Portland 17
The Vikings were hot at the plate and jumped out to and 8-1 lead after two innings of play, but the Raiders put together a five run fourth inning and a seven run sixth inning to tie the score at 15-15 at the end of the fifth. Lakewood scored three more in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh Portland scored two runs and had the tying run on base, but fell just short losing 18-17.
Junior Bella Spitzley pitched the complete seven inning game for Portland, striking out four.
The Raider offense tallied 19 hits in the game. Junior Bailee Fish, senior Jayden Townsend (double), junior Autumn Reffitt (double) and sophomore Claire Lyon (triple) each had three hits for Portland. Spitzley, sophomore Lilly Thelen (double) and junior Anastasia Seidelman (double) each had two hits. Junior Anna Morris had a double and four RBIs in the game.
Game 2: Suspended in top of third inning
The Raiders were leading 6-4 in game two in the top of the third inning before the game was suspended due to lightning in the area. Since this was a CAAC White contest, the game will likely be completed at a date to be determined.
Up Next
The Raiders are now 10-1 overall, and 2-1 in the CAAC White. On Friday, the Raiders will travel to Olivet for a make-up CAAC White contest.
