Raider boys upset Lansing Catholic on Friday night 67-59

The gymnasium at Portland High School was packed on Friday night as the Portland varsity basketball squads hosted league rival Lansing Catholic.


The Lady Raiders started the night off with a 53-41 over a previously undefeated Cougar team which should clinch a share of the CAAC White Championship.


The final game of the night was between the Portland and Lansing Catholic boys teams.


The Raiders were looking for revenge after losing to Lansing Catholic on the road 78-32 back on January 14th.


In the rematch, the Raiders scored 23 points in the final quarter of play to grind out a 67-59 upset win.


Portland was led by junior Marc Nobis with 16 points. Senior Trent Meyers and freshman Dominic Novara added 13 points each. Freshman Evan Gross scored 10 points and freshman Christopher Battley added nine points.


The Cougars were led by senior Alex Watters with 20 points.


Scoring summary by quarter:

1st – 2nd – 3rd – 4th – Final

Portland 13 – 17 – 14 – 23 – 67

Lansing Catholic 17 – 13 – 16 – 13 – 59


With the win, Portland improves to 5-12 overall, 4-5 in the CAAC White. They have three games remaining on their regular season schedule.

· 2/23 at Carson City Crystal (16-2 overall)

· 2/25 at Eaton Rapids (9-8 overall, 4-5 CAAC White)

· 3/3 home vs Mason (8-9 overall)
