Raider Baseball bows out of Diamond Classic after falling to GL 7-2

On Thursday afternoon, the Portland High School baseball team traveled to Grand Ledge to face the Comets in the second round of the Diamond Classic. The Comets drew a first-round bye, while Portland had to defeat Williamston to move past the first round of play.

Despite picking up several hits and two runs in the fifth inning, the Comet offense proved to be too much for the Raiders on this particular day. Grand Ledge won the game 7-2 to advance in the tournament.

Alex Russman pitched the first four innings for the Raiders, striking out three Comets. Hunter Morris pitched one and 2/3 innings striking out two, while Brady Bush closed out the game for Portland.

Offensively for Portland, Morris, Reese Townsend, Jorgen Sonday, Bush and Trevor Williams each had one hit.

The Raiders will travel to Forest Hills Eastern on Tuesday for a pre-district match-up. The winner will advance to play Belding in the district semi-finals on Saturday, June 5th.
