Portland Wrestlers top Charlotte and Howell

The Raider Wrestling Varsity A team continued to excel in CAAC competition, traveling on 1/13 to Okemos and achieving team wins over both Charlotte (49-20) and Howell (63-14), bringing their team record to 14-3 this season. Scoring for Portland against Charlotte were T. Sands (106, For.), B. Simon (113), L. Lanz (120), A. Feldpausch (132), G. Opperman (150), M. McGregor (157), B. Meyers (190), S. Goodman (215), B. Spitzley (285), and L. Guilford (175) with a 40-second pin. Scoring for Portland against Howell were B. Simon (113, For.), L. Lanz (120, For.), S. Dakin (126), A. Feldpausch (132), I. Kramer (138), Z. Stanton (144), M. McGregor (150), G. Opperman (157, For.), L. Guilford (175), B. Meyers (190), and B. Spitzley (285).
On 1/18, Varsity A traveled to the Jim Mooney Wlliamston Classic and took 3rd out of 22 teams. Undefeated in their brackets were Branlun Simon (106) and Landon Guilford (165). Also on the podium were L. Lanz (113, 2nd), G. Opperman (144, 2nd), B. Meyers (175, 3rd), and B. Spitzley (215, 4th).
On 1/13, the Varsity B team traveled to Waverly. Seven Raiders were undefeated in their brackets, including: Brayden Hinds (136-138), George Burgoyne (140-144), Wyatt Ingraham (150-157), Rico Palma (150-155), Garrett Ingraham (163-175), Chase Fullet (165-175), and Michael DiOrio (165-175) with Laurenz Valles (121-126) placing second.
On 1/17, Varsity B traveled to Laingsburg for their round robin tournament. Undefeated in their brackets were George Burgoyne (137-142), Landon Espinoza (157-165), and Chase Fullet (167-172) with B. Hinds (130-139), W. Ingraham (150-163), G. Ingraham (171-173), and M. DiOrio (173-190) all placing second.
The Portland Girls wrestling team made an impressive debut in their first-ever team duals tournament in Holt on 1/18. The team finished 7th of 10 teams. The Lady Raiders were victorious over West Ottawa (36-18), and Portage Central (30-24), schools evenly matched with teams filling similar weight classes as Portland. They fell to the larger teams of Hastings (18-66), Eaton Rapids (18-57), and Dewitt (24-54), but made respectable showings all around. Scoring wrestlers included a slew of wins by fall, including G. Stahl (105) over wrestlers from Hastings and Dewitt, K. Fuller (130) over Hastings and Portage Central, M. Pohl (170) and A. Brown (120) over West Ottawa, and R. Johns (235) over Eaton Rapids.
