Portland Varsity Girls Wrestling win first Championship Tournament Title at Fowlerville

The Portland Varsity Girls Wrestling team showed grit, growth, and championship heart in a busy week of competition highlighted by their first tournament championship title.

On Thursday, December 11, the Lady Raiders hosted a home double-dual against Fowlerville and Sexton. Portland battled hard against Fowlerville, one of the top teams in the state, ultimately falling by a narrow three-point margin (39-36). Despite the close loss, the match demonstrated how competitive and prepared the Raiders are this season as a team. Scoring wrestlers were Izzy Fedewa at 110 pounds, Georgia Stahl at 120, Jonnie Miller at 155, and Maddi Pohl at 170. Facing the smaller Sexton team, the Portland girls won 12-0 after claiming wins by fall at both the 120-pound (G. Stahl) and 155-pound (J. Miller) weight classes.

Just two days later, the team turned that experience into motivation.

On Saturday, December 13, the Portland Lady Raiders traveled to the Fowlerville Girls Scramble Tournament and delivered a standout performance, earning first place overall. The victory marked the first tournament championship in program history for the girls wrestling team—an exciting milestone for Portland wrestling.

The Raiders crowned four individual champions: Lilli Teachworth at 110 pounds, Georgia Stahl at 120, Maddi Pohl at 170, and Rylan Johns at 235. Two wrestlers, Amari Adler at 120, and Jonnie Miller at 155 took second place. Kyla Fuller at 125 and Alli Teachworth at 135 both took third place, and Izzy Fedewa finished in seventh. Overall, the Raiders scored 145 points as a team, racking up 26 wins-by-fall and 2 tech-fall victories.

The combination of individual excellence and team depth propelled Portland to the top of the podium and showcased the rapid progress of the program.
