Portland St. Patrick Cross Country Pre-Regional Results
On Saturday, October 24th the St. Patrick Shamrock cross country team competed in the pre-regional meet at Carson City. This is a new course for Carson City. A challenging course with 12 - 180 turns and 17 - 90 degree turns, It was muddy and slippery with one location having almost ankle-deep water that has been filled in with straw and dirt to become a mud pit.
Despite the challenges of the course, Laynie Meredith and Cozie Brown finished in first and third places respectively. Laynie led the entire race from start to finish fighting off 2nd place finisher Molly Dailey from Carson City. Laynie completed the race with a time of 21:44, only 24 seconds from the school record. Cozie Brown battled her way into 3rd place around the 1-mile mark and held on to finish in 3rd with a time of 22:15. Cozie ran a smart race understanding that she would need a huge effort to take 2nd place, she conserved her energy and ran a safe race, not risking injury.
Both Laynie and Cozie understood that they needed to place in the top 7 individuals, not associated with an advancing team, in order to qualify for the regional meet Saturday, October 31st.
Arianna Foxelster and Martin White also ran competitive races completing the race near their PR times even in these tough conditions.
