Portland Softball sweeps St. Johns, goes 1-1 in Spring Sports Carnival




On Thursday, the Raiders traveled to St. Johns.

 

Game 1: Portland 13, St. Johns 2

 

The Raiders tallied 13 runs on 14 hits in the first game of the day.  Sophomore Bella Spitzley led the Raider offense going three for four at the plate with one RBI.  Senior Jayden Townsend went two for four with a double and four RBIs.  Sophomore Lilly Thelen went two for four with a double and one RBI.  Sophomore Claire Lyon went two for four with a double and an RBI.  Junior Autumn Reffitt had a triple with two RBIs. 

 

Spitzley got the win in the circle for Portland striking out four and allowing only five hits. 

 

Game 2: Portland 5, St. Johns 4

 

St. Johns had a 4-3 lead in the middle of the seventh inning, but the Raiders rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 5-4.

 

Reffitt got a single to drive in the winning run.  Junior Bailee Fish went three for four.  Spitzley went two for four with a double.  Lilly Thelen went two for four with a double and a triple with two RBIs.  Lyon went two for three. 

 

Townsend got the win in the circle striking out six St. Johns hitters.

 

 

On Saturday Portland Hosted Fowlerville and Saranac as part of PHS’s Spring Sports Carnival.

 

Game 1: Fowlerville 4, Portland 3

 

The Raiders tied the game in the fifth inning and ended up pushing the game into extra innings.  Despite battling, Fowlerville would get the game winning run in the eighth inning.

 

Spitzley pitched all eight innings for Portland, striking out three.

 

Townsend led the Raider offense going three for four with a double and one RBI.  Thelen went two for four with a double and two RBIs.  Junior Anastasia Seidelman went two for four at the plate. 

 

 

Game 2: Portland 6, Saranac 0

 

Spitzley got the win in the circle pitching seven innings and striking out six. 

 

Townsend went two for four at the plate with a double and one RBI.  Fish and Reffitt had two hits each.

 


The Raiders are now 15-4 on the season.  Next week they travel to Eaton Rapids on Tuesday before hosting Haslett on Thursday.
