Portland Softball falls to Ionia in Districts

The Portland High School softball team traveled to Lakewood on Saturday for district play.


Despite jumping out to a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs, the Raiders season came to and end with a 4-3 loss.


Jayden Townsend went one for two with a home run for Portland. Lilly Thelen, Claire Lyon and Bella Spitzley each added a hit for the Raiders.


Townsend pitched three and third innings while Spitzley pitched three and two thirds’ innings, each striking out three Ionia batters.


In the district finals, Lakewood defeated Ionia 10-8 to advance to regional play.


The Raiders finished their 2023 season with 19 wins and 15 losses. They also won two regular season tournament championships. With no seniors on the roster this year, the 2024 Raiders are poised for an exciting season ahead.
