Portland High School senior wrestler Trent Trierweiler was awarded a $500 Scholarship during the 2022 CAAC Championship meet. He was one of six senior wrestlers to be awarded the scholarship.
The scholarship was awarded by the Lansing Wrestling Officials Association, “for a high school career that has a left a positive impression on the wrestlers on your team, your coaches, your school and your community.”
The association said, “Each year the Lansing Wrestling Officials Association (LWOA) awards scholarships to selected graduating senior wrestlers who enroll in and attend a post-secondary educational institution to further their potential. They don’t limit that institution to any particular college or university. Additionally, the recipients are not required to continue their involvement in wrestling beyond high school. The scholarship is designed to take a little of the financial strain off of the student and their family and to acknowledge the recipient’s involvement and contribution to the sport of high school wrestling in the Central Michigan Area.”
“The LWOA enthusiastically supports the young men and women who dedicate themselves to being leaders, role models, and student-athletes while involved in high school wrestling.”
About LWOA
In 1969, the Lansing Wrestling Officials Association was founded with the purpose of developing and recruiting outstanding officials. These officials will be trained to be consistent, competent and have a deep understanding of the rules that govern the sport of high school wrestling.
Over the course of the season, we will have five general meetings to discuss everything that could and has happened while officiating. We also have a mechanics meetings paired with our instructional meeting which is a great learning experience for all officials.
