Terry Frewen has been elected Chairman of the Ionia County Board of Commissioners for the 2026 term.
First elected as a county commissioner in 2023, Frewen brings three years of experience on the board into the chairmanship. He has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee for the past two years and has been actively involved in several key county boards and committees, including the Ionia County Economic Alliance, the Ionia/Montcalm County Department of Health and Human Services Board, Facilities Committee, County Parks Board, and the Tax Allocation Board.
In 2026, Frewen will also serve on the Finance Committee, Grievance Hearing Committee, Airport Board, Emergency Management Advisory Council, Tax Allocation Board, and the Audit Committee.
“This role is a responsibility I take seriously,” Frewen said. “My commitment is straightforward: to serve the citizens of Ionia County with integrity, transparency, and sound fiscal stewardship, while also supporting and respecting the dedicated county employees who provide essential services to our community every day.”
As Chairman, Frewen emphasized collaboration and long-term planning as priorities for the coming year.
Frewen added, “I look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow commissioners, county leadership, and staff to make thoughtful, responsible decisions that strengthen our county today and position it well for the future,” he said. “2026 is going to be a very busy year, and I hope that my contributions will benefit Ionia County for many years to come.”
Frewen expressed appreciation to his fellow commissioners for their confidence and to county residents for the opportunity to continue serving in a leadership role.
