Portland's Soup Project Marks Five Years, Kicks Off Annual Fundraiser
Submitted by The Soup Project
We started with a simple goal: to lighten the load for our elderly neighbors and the families caring for them.
That goal turned into soup. Each week, our volunteers cook and deliver two meals to homebound neighbors, elderly residents on fixed incomes, and families facing serious illness across the Portland School District. We are 100% volunteer run. No paid staff. No red tape. Just people who showed up for each other and kept showing up.
That is really what The Soup Project is. It is neighbors who noticed a need and decided to do something about it. Many of our volunteers have been with us since day one, and our delivery teams in particular have built real, lasting relationships with the people they serve. A knock on the door once a week tells someone they have not been forgotten, and it tells a caregiver that someone else sees what they carry and is there to help ease it.
We do apply for grants, and we are grateful for every one we receive, but they only cover a portion of what it takes to keep this program running. The rest comes from this community.
Our One Fundraiser of the Year, The Soup Project Luncheon Fundraiser.
This single event is how we keep our soup pot full for the next twelve months, and this year we are entering our 5th year of showing up for Portland.
Our annual Luncheon and Fundraiser is Saturday, September 26, 11am to 1pm Old Red Mill Farmers Market Pavilion $10 per ticket
Come share a meal with us and browse our silent auction, or give us a few hours of your day as a volunteer. Every dollar and every hour goes right back into the pot, feeding the neighbors who need us most.
Tickets and volunteer sign ups are at thesoupproject.org. We would love to see you there.
