Portland’s Piper Groesser to join Montcalm Community College Volleyball Team

Portland High School senior Piper Groesser recently signed to play volleyball at Montcalm Community College next year.

Groesser played volleyball for four years at PHS, one year at junior varsity level and three years at the varsity level. She also played seven years of travel volleyball. One of those years in the Far Out program, and six with the Airstrike program. She has also been asked to play for America’s Team Volleyball in Australia in 2022.

Her career stats for the Raisers were: 239 sets played, 87 assists, 301 kills, 46 aces, 316 digs, and 55 blocks. In her senior campaign she was voted team captain and “Best Teammate.” The 2022 Raiders finished 20-20-3 and reached the District Finals.

When asked about her decision to attend Montcalm Community College, Groesser said, “I currently attend this school as a dual enrolled student through Portland High School. The school is putting a lot of money into their campus right now to enhance their facilities. This is the first time in 40 years they are bringing back sports. It is something that I’m excited to be part of making history.”

She said, “I have enjoyed coaching the Red Cedar League Volleyball program through our high school to help young girls find their love of the sport as I have over the years.”

Groesser added, “I would like to thank my family and coaches for their endless support over the years while I got to play the sport I loved.”

With its main campus in Sidney, the Centurion athletic teams will participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). In addition to volleyball, the school is starting programs in men’s golf, as well as men’s and women’s basketball, bowling, clay target shooting and cross country.
