Portland’s Breckyn Werner to continue basketball career at Alma College

Breckyn Werner, a senior on the Portland High School basketball team, has signed to continue her basketball career at Alma College.
Werner has been a member of the varsity basketball team at PHS for four years. She was also a member of the varsity volleyball team for three years.
When asked about her choice of Alma College, Werner said, “I picked Alma because of the community, coaches, and teammates. They were all so welcoming and so nice. It also felt like home. I also know a couple of people that already go there and it will be nice to see a familiar face when walking around campus.”
Werner added, “I want to thank everyone who has helped me get here and have supported me throughout the years. It means a lot to me and I am super excited to spend the next four years at Alma.”
PHS varsity girls basketball coach Jason Haid said, “I think Breckyn found the perfect fit in Alma college. She’s improved so much throughout her high school career and I can’t wait to watch her succeed at the next level.”
Breckyn is the daughter of Heath and Jennifer Werner.
Located in Alma, MI, Alma College has 1,435 undergraduate students from 24 states and 17 countries. The Scots compete at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, America’s oldest collegiate conference.
