Portland’s Anna Humphrey to join Montcalm Community College Bowling Team
Portland High School senior Anna Humphrey recently signed to bowl at Montcalm Community College next year.
Anna was on the varsity bowling team at PHS for four years. She was selected All-Conference team in 2021 and 2023 and got high average award in 2023.
When asked about her choice to attend MCC, Anna said, “I’ll be honest. A year ago I would have never seen myself going to Montcalm Community College. That changed when I looked at my options. A community college was something that would let me get a general education out of the way so I could figure out what I wanted to go into. Montcalm is a great way to do that. Plus they have a bowling team!”
PHS girls bowling coach Ryan Humphrey said of Anna, “she is an extremely knowledgeable competitor. Always willing to pick up a teammate who is down. Consistently provided guidance to our younger bowlers. Truly talented and a quiet leader on this team. I could consistently count on her in any situation.”
Anna also told us, “I’d like to thank my parents, my former coach, Joe Whitford, and all my teammates. I couldn’t have made it this far without all of them.”
With its main campus in Sidney, the Centurion athletic teams will participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). In addition to volleyball, the school is starting programs in men’s golf, as well as men’s and women’s basketball, bowling, clay target shooting and cross country.
