Portland High’s Boys Golf 2021 CAAC White Divisional Tournament and Overall Divisional Team Champs


Played at the very highly rated and challenging Emerald Golf Course near St. Johns, the Portland boys golf team fought off a strong, eighteen-hole effort by the Lansing Catholic Cougars as well as the heat and strong winds on Tuesday (May 25th) to claim both the 2021 Divisional Golf Tournament and the overall Divisional Team Championship. The last time Portland won the boys golf team divisional championship was the back-to-back titles of 2009 & 2010.


Behind another consistent team performance, the Raiders finished four strokes better than the Cougars by the scores of 354 to 358. Charlotte took a slim two stroke victory over Eaton Rapids, 368 to 370 to overtake Eaton Rapids for third place in the final standings. Ionia came in fifth place with a 405 and Lansing Sexton finished sixth with a 492.


Scoring: Isaac Honsowitz lead the Raiders with an 84; Carter Rosier shot his season’s best eighteen-hole score of 87; CJ Miller carded an 88 and Josh Rutkowski rounded out the team scoring with a 95.

Portland 33-2 45 pts.

Lansing Catholic 29-6 41 pts.

Charlotte 17-18 28 pts.

Eaton Rapids 17-18 27 pts.

Ionia 9-26 18 pts.

Lansing Sexton 0-35 8 pts.



Out of eighteen, individual, conference golf honors awarded by the Capitol Area Athletic Conference, six were earned by Portland golfers. CJ Miller earned the top individual honor of the conference as the “2021 Conference Individual Champion. “Three additional Raiders made First Team All-Conference: Isaac Honsowitz (3rd Place), Carter Rosier (6th Place) and Luke Nobis (12th Place). Earning Honorable Mention were Haden Getchell (15th Place) and Josh Rutkowski (18th Place).


The attention of their 2021 season now turns to getting prepared to play in the MHSAA Boys Golf Division 3 Regional at the Timber Ridge Golf Course in East Lansing on Tuesday, June 1st. Regional #16 features some of the top 2021 Division 3 teams in the Lansing and Jackson area. In addition to Portland, this regional also includes: Defending 2019 State Champs Hanover-Horton, Bath, Leslie, Napoleon, Jackson Lumen Christi, Lansing Catholic and eleven other D-3 schools.
